My family of 5 sailed on the Disney Magic during our spring break in March. We drove down to Galveston the day before the sailing and spent the night at the Residence inn by Marriott.
The hotel was across the street from the beach. We could view the Disney cruise ship from our hotel. Our room had a full kitchen, and we had plenty of room for our family of 5. After we pulled up to the hotel and unloaded our bags. My husband and our daughters walked down the street to the local pizzeria to pick up a pizza for us to have in our room. The next morning, we had breakfast at our hotel and separated out the items we needed to carry with us from the items that could be checked in and join us later at our room. On our way over to the port parking we stopped by Kroger's to pick up some more diapers and formula for our toddler.
We parked our van at port parking and was shuttled over to the port. We checked in at the port parking and they directed us to our section to park. The port parking was an old building with both outdoor parking and covered parking. We waited for our scheduled time to get in line and boarded the ship. We had lunch on board and begin to explore the ship. Our room was ready for us fairly quickly after we boarded. We went to our room to relax, saw the pack and play for our toddler as well as the diaper Genie.
Cruise Day 1
We went to see the kids club. There was so much to do at the kid club but not many of the machines were turned on during the open house period. The cast members in charge of the Oceaneer club were not accessible in the kid club area. They were in the front registering kids. Not showing off the club and not roaming around checking on kids and adults in the club. This Oceaneer club and Lab it is obvious that, this was one of their first kid club design. It was not as modern as the Wish kid clubs. I could also tell because my girls (8 years old and 10 years old) weren't interested in being there as much as they had been on The Wish. Our room was ready right away and our luggage came rather quickly as well. We went to check out the "it's a small room nursery" the doors were closed, and we weren't able to check it out.
The doors to the ship closed, and we went to our muster drill station outside. It was cold and windy that afternoon. After that we rushed to the sail away party. We danced and had a nice sail away party.
Dinner time, our first night was Rapunzel's Table. The live show was cute and lively. Our girls enjoyed it. I on the other hand did not. Not the show but since I'm lactose intolerant and I noted that I am on my dinner form as something for me to avoid. I also informed my server of this. My family received their food in a timely manner. I on the other hand did not. My husband had his appetizer and his dinner half eaten before my appetizer came. This was a bit unusual, and I was super hungry, tired, and disappointed. We went to our room after dinner and found our room made up for the night with the bunk beds for our girls made up and our little one's pack "n" play, and diaper pail prepped for us. Later that night I called in for room service and ordered cookies and milk for my girls. Just to get some of the funky blues I was experiencing out.
That was just the first day. I will write day 2-4 soon.
