Our Longest Disney Trip Yet — Two Weeks of Magic, Swimming, and Family Time

We decided to stay at Disney World with our three kids for just over two weeks, making this our longest trip yet. We split our stay between two Deluxe resorts and visited only one park—Magic Kingdom—twice. In this post, I’m sharing what we did, why we chose to spend our summer break at Disney, and how being part of Disney Vacation Club has shaped the way we vacation as a family.

Becoming DVC members was an intentional choice for us. With young kids and demanding work schedules, we wanted guaranteed time each year to slow down, reconnect, and be fully present with one another. DVC gives us that—no work obligations, no outside pressures, just dedicated family time.

The first part of our vacation was spent at Animal Kingdom Lodge, and it was the perfect place to unwind. Every morning we stepped onto our balcony to watch giraffes, ostriches, zebras, and other animals roaming the savanna. It never got old.

Most days were slow and simple—swimming, relaxing, grabbing lunch and a cocktail from the pool bar, and letting the kids splash until they were worn out. On other days, we took the resort transportation to Disney Springs, an outdoor shopping and dining district with stores, restaurants, a movie theater, and paid activities.

One of the biggest perks of DVC is having a kitchen. With a family of five, eating out at Disney can get expensive fast, especially once you add tips. Being able to cook some meals in our villa saved us money and made the trip feel more relaxed.

The second half of our stay was at Old Key West Resort. Disney is currently offering a special for guests staying at Deluxe resorts—free admission to a water park on check‑in day—so we took advantage of it and visited Blizzard Beach.

I’m so glad we did. Blizzard Beach is perfect for families. With kids ages 12, 9, and 3, we found plenty for everyone. The older two loved the lazy river, all three enjoyed the wave pool, and they had a blast on the slides. I even went down a few slides myself, though I quickly learned they’re definitely designed with kids in mind—I scraped up my leg pretty badly. Consider that your friendly FYI.

Back at Old Key West, we spent our days exploring the different pools around the resort and soaking in the slower pace. It was peaceful, easy, and exactly what we needed.

I absolutely love taking the resort busses to Disney Springs and to the theme parks. Sit back, relax and leave the driving to the professionals. They get crowded on the way back to the resorts at the end of your theme park day.

We visited Magic Kingdom twice, and I always recommend doing this for larger parks. It takes the pressure off and lets you enjoy the day without rushing.

The first visit was all about the classic Disney experience—parades, snacks, rides, and ending the night with fireworks. The second visit was more relaxed. We skipped the nighttime shows and focused on riding more attractions instead.

One thing I highly recommend is Disney PhotoPass. It’s incredibly helpful for getting the whole family in photos and for collecting ride pictures. For us, it was absolutely worth it.

Whether we were watching giraffes from our balcony, floating in a lazy river, or walking down Main Street together, the real magic was simply having uninterrupted time with our kids. No deadlines, no rushing, no distractions—just us.

It was our longest Disney vacation yet, and it showed us that the magic isn’t only in the parks. It’s in the quiet mornings, the poolside laughs, the shared meals, and the moments when we’re fully present with each other. These are the memories our kids will carry with them, and we can’t wait to make more.
